Santa Maria Assunta ai Gesuiti

The wonderful church of Santa Maria Assunta ai gesuiti was built between 1710 and 1735 on a project by the architect Domenico Rossi.
The imposing façade, in a late baroque style, has a group of marble statues that represents the Assumption of the Virgin. Together with the sumptuous internal decoration of the central aisle, the presbytery and the main altar with the Holy Trinity and the spiral columns, it is a truly unique case in the religious architecture of 18th century Venice. The stuccoes, the marble marquetry in the pulpit and presbytery, the frescoes and altarpieces by Titian (among which is listed the famous masterpiece “the Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence”), Tintoretto (“Assumption of the Virgin”), Palma il Giovane, Balestra and many other famous artists are particularly valuable.

The church is regularly officiated by the Jesuit Fathers and hosts sacred music concerts and other artistic, cultural and religious events.
